Tuckerton Seaport in Tuckerton, NJ

Tucked in Tuckerton, New Jersey is the cutest little family destination. We were invited to this little treasure of land last year (you can view some of our pictures on Facebook here). When Sandy hit – it hit the area hard and I didn’t know if we’d get back there anytime soon – but low and behold… that motto “Stronger Than the Storm” holds true and just in time for Memorial celebrations Tuckerton Seaport was strong on its feet.

We attended the Bluegrass and BBQ Festival a week ago… and had an amazing time. Sea life is fascinating to young and old… and here we got to get up close and personal with hermit crabs and star fish. I love the personal attention and educational value in these brief but informative moments. The demonstrators really love their job and have fun information to share. Depending on interest level – they can briefly point out a few things or delve into detail for the curious minds. I love it. Take advantage of these resources – a wealth of information at your fingertips not to mention the experience of petting and observing different creatures up close.

Todd's Musical Petting Zoo, Tuckerton Seaport, Stronger Than The StormTuckerton Seaport’s festival also featured another amazing hands-on opportunity for kids… Todd’s Musical Petting Zoo. Todd's Musical Petting ZooThis was truly a unique experience where children of all ages got to try different instruments, testing how heavy it is, what does it sound like and how is it played. AWESOME! Check out this interview clip from a Connecticut bluegrass festival that best describes Todd’s traveling instrument museum and concept. This is an excellent idea to encourage the discovery of new music and ability. My kids (16 years old and 3 ½ years old) really enjoyed being able to “touch” and play different pieces. Here they are enjoying a variety of instruments.

Our afternoon was rounded out by awesome food, live music and kids crafts. The Tuckerton Seaport offers a variety of family-friendly activities even on non-festival weekends including an awesome playground (again check out our pics from last year on Facebook), miniature golf course, two-story museum and lighthouse, on-site petting zoo, boardwalk and so much more. The restaurant on premise is amazing, although this trip we didn’t eat inside but took advantage ofTuckerton Seaport, NJ Shore, Stronger Than The Storm the food vendors under the tented area. It’s a beautiful place to be at the beach without the sand in your shoes and if you’re looking for a quiet but activity packed get-away. (And what vacation is complete without stopping at a gift shop… theirs is wonderful with a variety of gift items for purchase.)

So what’s next? June 8th: Privateers & Pirate Festival. This is sure to be an educationally fun day – learning the different between pirates and privateers, playing games, a costume contest and scavenger hunt, among other planned activities. Live entertainment by “Pirates For Sail”. We can’t wait for this festival and hope you’ll join us for this adventure. Festival starts at 10 AM and is included in general admission. For more information and a list of upcoming events please follow Tuckerton Seaport on Facebook.  For more of our Bluegrass & BBQ Festival pics – visit us on our Facebook page.

We were offered an amazing opportunity to join Tuckerton Seaport for this Bluegrass Festival. Our media pass included admission and exhibits. This article represents my experiences with this seaside resort and my opinion of this educationally rich, family-friendly sweet spot, although I was compensated for this post. Thank you for visiting our blog – now put Tuckerton on the map for a worthwhile summertime visit as well.  #Tuckerton
